The Cape Ann Museum, Gloucester, MA
The Cape Ann Museum, located in Gloucester’s Historic district, purchased a dilapidated building across the street from the Museum. The City granted the Museum permission to tear down the building and replace it with a pocket park/plaza for public use and a small parking lot. CBA worked closely with the museum and the City’s Historic Commission to design a public space that visually connects the Museum with the historic City Hall, creates a setting for a significant piece of sculpture, and provides a passive pocket park for tourists and residents. The new plaza has been a tremendous success, used by the Museum for functions and greatly enjoyed by the general public.
