GALAXY PARK, KENDALL SQUARE, CAMBRIDGE, MA

This busy crossroads in Kendall Square, Cambridge, containing the iconic The Galaxy: Earth Sphere sculpture, was in great need of a makeover after decades of heavy use. CBA was tasked with reviving the plaza, and did so by incorporating new modern benches, plantings, and creative but tough decorative paving, including radial graniteand concrete containing luminous smooth blue glass aggregate. This design process was notable as this is a privately funded and maintained public space, which allowed for greater creativity of materials and design.
